About the species

Heptapleurum arboricola

The dwarf umbrella tree (Heptapleurum arboricola) is an evergreen shrub belonging to the Araliaceae family. It is native to Hainan Island in southern China and Taiwan, where it grows in warm, humid environments.

It is characterized by glossy, palmately compound leaves with several leaflets arranged in an umbrella-like pattern. It is a popular ornamental houseplant and can develop into a small tree under suitable growing conditions.

It prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Allow the upper layer of the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during winter. Avoid waterlogging and prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.

The plant is toxic to pets. Ingestion may cause oral irritation, excessive drooling and vomiting.
