In the grower’s words
Echinocereus rigidissimus is a cactus species native to southwestern North America and belonging to the family Cactaceae. It usually grows as a solitary plant with short, cylindrical stems. Its distinctive spines are densely arranged in comb-like rows and lie closely against the stem, often creating striking bands of pink, purple and whitish colours. Large, bright pink to magenta flowers appear in late spring and summer. Natural habitats include rocky, gravelly slopes and semiarid plant communities. The species is particularly suited to well-drained, lime-poor soils.
