In the grower’s words
Astrophytum ornatum is one of the largest species in its genus and gradually develops a columnar form. Young plants are globular, while mature specimens become taller and cylindrical, usually with eight ribs. The green to grey-green surface bears distinctive whitish scales and long, strong spines. Large yellow flowers emerge from the stem apex. The species originates from the dry, rocky mountain regions of Mexico.
